Now that the word is out, I can FINALLY share with you how my life has been actually going for the past 3 months.
And to sum it all up, it has been exciting & ROUGH.
I won’t get into all the nasties yet without telling you how we found out I was pregnant…
I used to take tests a lot. Just to be sure, considering I had been off the pill for over a year now. But I hadn’t taken one for a while. So when I noticed things were a little different about a week before my period was supposed to show up, I went and bought one. You guys, no joke, as soon as I bought it and went into my car, I started bawling for some reason. And that was when I really realized, I might actually be preggo.
So I waited a couple days before taking it, for fear of disappointment. The night before we found out, my husband and I were sat in our backyard and I had a glass of wine in my hand. A brand I regularly buy and love, and it tasted DISGUSTING. Like, couldn’t even take another sip disgusting. We figured we just bought a bad bottle and I threw it out without thinking too much of it.
When I woke up the next morning, I automatically realized what was probably going on and quietly got up to take a test. I waited the three minutes, which felt like 3 hours, and when I turned over the test I saw the faintest second line.
Now I always imagined that when I found out news like this, that I would surprise my husband with a cute thought out plan to break the news. Ha! That all went straight out the window as I ran out of the bathroom and shook my husband violently while bawling my eyes out. Poor guy woke up and thought the house was burning down or something.
Through my sobs and “Oh my gosh’s” I finally was able to speak the words that I had wanted to say for so long — “I’m pregnant!!!”
About 5 tests later and 2 days later, I took a digital test on our two year wedding anniversary and saw the words “Pregnant” pop up immediately.
We told my family not long after that and then my husband’s family soon after.
THE BEST DAY EVER YOU GUYS.
Fast forward to a couple weeks later, when I started to really feel pregnant.
The nausea is insane. Like takes over your whole body and makes you feel unable to do anything insane. And being exhausted from growing a human doesn’t help either.
There were very very few things I could eat, but when I was able to, I pretty much ate:
Mac + Cheese
“Preggie Pops” – These helped soooo much!
And yeah, that’s about it. I remember telling my doctor my child must not be getting any nutritional value from my diet, but he said to eat when you can, even if it’s mac + cheese. Something is better than nothing!
Speaking of doctors, our first appointment was amazing. To see your little blob of a baby on the screen is one thing, but to HEAR ITS HEARTBEAT is another. I think my husband and I both realized in that moment, “Oh shit, this is really real.”
And it is. It’s so real that it’s surreal. But it’s amazing. The first trimester is one of the hardest things I’ve had to go through but through all of the throwing up, exhaustion, and feeling nasty, I am so thankful that I am able to be able to carry a little life inside of me and soon have a tiny human of our own!
I’m 16 weeks pregnant now, and I am feeling soooooo much better. It’s true when they say that your second trimester is the “honeymoon” phase because you start to actually feel somewhat normal again and eat real foods.
I would feel sick for 13 weeks all over again if I had to though. This has already been the most amazing experience of my life and I feel so lucky to have my amazing husband by my side throughout every second of this journey.
Thank you all for the congratulations and I will try (eh, we’ll see) to not bombard you with baby things. Unless you like that, then I totally will.
Talk to you soon! Xx
